Hitler comparisons? That's just loser talk, Nitish-ji, says BJP
October 30: Nitish Kumar addresses anti-communalism meet in Delhi.
New Delhi: The BJP today accused Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, of sounding like a man on the verge of losing an election.  "Your comments equating Narendra Modi and the BJP with Hitler and fascism are the sort of language used by a loser.  Why are you sounding like this, Nitish-ji?" taunted the BJP's Ravi Shankar Prasad.

While addressing a conclave of his party, the Janata Dal United, Mr Kumar said yesterday that the BJP's prime ministerial candidate is a fascist and subscribes to the beliefs of Hitler. He also said that the "Modi wave in India" that the BJP keeps referring to is artificial like "the wind created by a blower." (Read)

Incorrect, said the BJP. "Recognize the difference between the blower's wind and a public wave, Nitish ji," said Mr Prasad today.

The BJP and Mr Kumar have been hurling darts at each other with dogged regularity since June, when their 17-year alliance was called off by the Bihar Chief Minister.

He said he could not accept the BJP's plans to project Mr Modi as the face of its campaign for the national election. Mr Kumar, like other detractors of Mr Modi, says the Gujarat chief minister is a polarizing leader who will exacerbate communal tension.

The BJP says Mr Kumar's take is meant for public consumption, especially by the large Muslim population of Bihar.

On Sunday, a massive rally for Mr Modi in Patna was preceded by a series of bomb blasts in which six people were killed and nearly 80 injured.Though Mr Kumar insists there were no holes in the security arrangements, basic precautions were not taken -there were no metal detectors at the entrances to the large public park, for example, and yesterday, three more bombs were found there and defused by experts.
