HIV - a positive way forward

Mumbai: A giant balloon like structure installed right adjacent to the CST station in Mumbai tickled the curiosity of many by-passers on Monday evening. It was an attempt to spread awareness on the HIV virus; the installation made from 12000 condoms was part of the annual AIDS awareness initiative - the Heroes project.

The project, manned by industrialist Parmeshwar Godrej, also sought support from Bollywood.

"AIDS is a very important subject and I think I would definitely like to make a film on it to spread the message," said filmmaker Karan Johar.

With over 1,80,000 HIV inflicted people in Maharashatra, this endeavour through the government authorities and the media aimed to reach out to as many commoners as possible.

And on Monday, everyone from little children to artists joined hands for the same.

"I think its important to break certain myths about the disease and make people understand how important it is to eradicate the virus," filmmaker Farhan Akhtar said.

Nothing is too much when it comes to spreading the word on HIV AIDS. And what better time to speak up, than the World AIDS Day.
