Home Minister Rajnath Singh today urged youngsters to spread the message of patriotism and nationalism as he interacted with a group of students from Jammu and Kashmir.
"There are some people who mislead youth, you have to be aware and convey that India has been our country and will be always," he told a group of 250 such youngsters participating in the 'Watan Ko Jano' tour organised by the Home Ministry.
The children are in the 15-24 age group and the programme aims to expose youth from the state to the rest of the country.
The event was held at North Block in New Delhi.
Interacting with the group, the home minister said that he wants the youth to share their experiences with the people of their areas on their return.
Mr Singh also told them to join the economic progress of the country by being an important part of the development process.
The home minister said he felt happy on hearing experiences of the youth during their visit to different places.
'Watan Ko Jano' is an initiative under which the children of militancy-hit victims and weaker sections of society are identified by Jammu and Kashmir State Rehabilitation Council as beneficiaries under the programme in the state.
The Ministry of Home Affairs in coordination with various agencies, including state government, has been conducting Youth Exchange programme.
The programme aims at exposing the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to the vibrant development and vitality of culture of people residing in other states.
The 252 children are mostly from families affected by militancy in Jammu and Kashmir and represent all districts of the state.
The group has visited various historical places in Delhi.
They have also seen technological advancement and had an opportunity to have a metro ride, a first time experience for all the children who have hardly have had an opportunity to look beyond their districts.
Apart from visiting various locations of historical, cultural, educational and tourist interests, the team is going to engage in various activities including sports, debates, painting competition, interactive programs, cultural interactions etc with similar age groups in schools and colleges during their stay at various places.
Union Minister for Personnel Jitendra Singh and Minister of State for Home Affairs Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary were also present on the occasion.
