New Delhi:
Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, who is also Leader of the house in the Lok Sabha, spoke on the Assam violence that led to a heated debate between the government and the Opposition on the first day of the Monsoon Session. Here are the highlights of Mr Shinde's speech:
- It's with deep anguish that I speak of the recent spate of violence in Assam. There was simmering tension between two groups.
- Initially communal incidents were concentrated in Kokrajhar, but due to a Bandh call, tensions spread to Chirang and Dhubri...
- We want all people in India - irrespective of caste, creed - to live peacefully.
- We all must work together instead of making allegations against each other.
