Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde addressed the media after his meeting with the Chief Secretaries and top cops of states to discuss a strategy to stop crimes against women. Below are the highlights of his speech:
- Police must take responsibility of protecting women, children
- Lack in training and sensitisation of police
- Every suggestion we are considering; some suggestions havecome for graded punishments
- Already we have ordered appointing more women policemen inDelhi
- Almost everybody said there should be fast-track courts (forcrime against women)
- The suggestions will be translated into law at the earliest
- The suggestion has come from leader of Opposition
- But there is no need to call a special session
- I have written to all parties to send their recommendations to Justice Verma commission
