Hope for Andhra's HIV+ children

Hope for Andhra's HIV+ children
Karimnagar:

After an NDTV report on Sunday about three children in the Karimnagar district of Andhra Pradesh who had managed remarkable achievements despite being orphaned after their parents died of HIV, there has been a tremendously heartening response from viewers who have come forward to support the children.

Raghu can now afford to go to engineering college as NDTV viewers have come forward to pay for his college fees and more. And no one is more happy than Raghu's sister Yashoda who hopes one day they will be able to help others like themselves.

"I am hoping that one day my brother will be educated and so will my sister and some day we will be able to help many others like ourselves," Yashoda said.

Yashoda dropped out of Class X after her parents died two years ago of HIV/AIDS. Rolling upto 500 beedis for 10-12 hours a day fetches her Rs 30, which not even enough for the three children to eat. That is why Raghu was so worried that despite getting 91 per cent marks, he may not be able to go to engineering college.

"My sister can't afford to pay my college fees because we are very poor. If she has to pay the fees, they can't survive. That's why I need someone's support to help me study," Raghu said.

It is said that God helps those who help themselves. The children did their bit putting in hard work and showing determination. God came to them in the form of NDTV viewers who have come forward to help these children.
