Hotel Taj receives third e-mail threat

Mumbai: The receipt of third e-mail of Pakistani origin threatening to carry out bomb blast at the Hotel Taj Palace and Tower here has prompted authorities to heighten security at the hotel, one of the sites of the November 26 terror strikes.

The e-mail, received on March 31 from a different e-mail ID from which the previous e-mails were sent, was not signed and did not specify when the explosion would be carried out, police officials said on Friday.

The hotel received the e-mail on its official e-mail ID after which its officials informed the police.

"The Internet Protocol (IP) addresses in all three cases have been found to be different. But the Internet service provider has been found to be the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd for all three e-mails," police officials said.

"The e-mail ID from which the third mail was sent seemed to have been created recently," they said.

This e-mail is the third received by the hotel. The earlier ones were received by the Chennai unit of the hotel chain and the Hotel Taj in Mumbai.

One wing of the hotel, the heritage Taj Palace building, is under renovation as it suffered extensive damage during the 26/11 attack. The other wing is currently operational.
