Barasat, West Bengal: A housewife died of stab wounds while her husband and daughter were in a serious condition following an alleged domestic tiff at Baranagar in North 24 Parganas district today.

A senior officer of Barrackpore Police Commissionerate, under which the area falls, said Reshmi Kapoor, the homemaker was declared dead at a state-run hospital after being rushed there by neighbours.

Reshmi's husband Vikash was taken to Baranagore State General Hospital with serious stab wounds while their daughter, whose name was withheld, was shifted to state-run RG Kar Hospital in the city, the officer said.

The officer said neighbors were alerted after hearing shouts and screams from the house on Fatik Ghosh Lane this morning and on rushing inside found the three members of the family lying in a pool of blood in different parts of the room.

The neighbours told the police that they heard loud arguments from the household in the morning hours, the officer said, adding that the cause of death and the circumstances would be known only after the post-mortem report.

A section of neighbours, however, claimed before the media that following the arguments the husband-wife were involved in a scuffle with someone picking up the kitchen knife and as their teenaged daughter tried to intervene, she also suffered sharp cuts.

The officer, however, did not corroborate the turn of events preceding the incident.
