Srinagar:
On Sunday night, Noor Ahmad's door was knocked down and three militants burst in. Refusing to give in and armed only with axes, the Kashmir family fought the militants for hours, finally overpowering them. They managed to kill one of the militants. The other two escaped, leaving behind their guns: an AK 56 and an AK 47 rifle.
NDTV met Rukhsana, Noor Ahmad's daughter and the Kashmiri woman who along with her brother took on three terrorists and managed to kill one of them.
NDTV: Were you scared when the militants attacked your house?
Rukhsana: I wasn't scared at all. When militants barged into our house, we caught hold of them and snatched their guns. We then gunned down one of them.
NDTV: Have you been trained to shoot?
Rukhsana: I picked up some shooting tactics from TV and then got to know how to use a gun.
NDTV: You defended yourself against militants and killed one of them. Clearly you could now be their target. Are you scared?
Rukhsana: I am scared. They might kill me anytime. Only one militant was killed that day, the rest are out in the open. They are upset because I have their guns and killed their group member.
NDTV: What do you want now?
Rukhsana: My family should be shifted to a secure place guarded by security men. I want a job as well.
NDTV: You will be honoured by the Governor in Raj Bhawan...
Rukhsana: All I want is a secure home for my family. I want to think about the future of the children and jobs for us.
