Shimla:
Hundreds of people, including foreign tourists, have been stranded in Himachal Pradesh's Spiti subdivision for the past two days after the closure of roads due to landslides triggered by rains, the police said on Monday.
Incessant rainfall in the region over the past few days triggered massive landslides that blocked the Kaza-Manali and Kaza-Kinnaur highways.
"The road link from Kaza to Kinnaur district couldn't be restored. Work is on to reopen the road and is likely to be reopened tomorrow (Tuesday)," Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar told IANS.
He said traffic on the Kaza-Manali highway was restored on Sunday.
Officials said a large number of locals had come to Kaza for a local festival.
The picturesque Kaza in the Spiti Valley in Lahaul and Spiti district is frequently visited by tourists.
Two houses collapsed in Totu area of Shimla following heavy rains. There were no casualties as the residents vacated the buildings when they started caving in.
The Jammu-Pathankot train service was terminated at Guler as the tracks between Guler and Jogindernagar were blocked at a number of points due to landslides.
A meteorological department official here said the state witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours.
Dharamsala in Kangra district experienced the maximum rainfall of 182 mm.
Shimla recorded 44 mm of rain till Monday morning.
