Hyderabad: Hyderabad's old city area goes to polls this Thursday. Locals admit the area has been notorious for bogus-voting.
Shareefa has lost count of the number of votes she has cast so far. They are a lot more than the number of elections held in Hyderabad's old city area.
Shareefa says: "They will be carrying some spirit with which they wipe it. The voting marks gets wiped out. They used to request us to cast an extra vote. Now it may not happen."
Locals admit bogus-voting has been rampant in this area. Because specially during elections, the communities are polarised.
Voters also say perceptions are now changing.
"Now don't know what will happen because there is electoral I-card and strict monitoring. They take the name of religion but that's only for votes. What we want is someone who stands by the poor, whatever the religion," one resident says.
Social observers point out that bogus voting is neither limited to one community nor constituency but with electoral I-cards, they hope such malpractices will be minimised.
