New Delhi:
Ahead of the Maharashtra elections, the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance has made headlines for an imminent crisis.
But Prithviraj Chavan, Chief Minister of Maharashtra and from the Congress party, told NDTV that the Congress-NCP alliance is also not resolved. The "situation with alliances is fluid", he said, saying "everyone watching what will happen to Shiv Sena-BJP."
Ajit Pawar, the NCP leader and Mr Chavan's bete noir, has demanded a 50-50 breakup of Maharashtra's 288 seats. In the last election in 2009, the Congress fought 174, the NCP 114.
Mr Chavan ruled this saying a "50-50 breakup is not acceptable." He said both sides were moving towards a final formula.
As for Ajit Pawar's contention that he wants to be Chief Minister, Mr Chavan said anyone is allowed to have ambition but "Congress has made it clear that I am the CM candidate."
