I Am Your Sevak, Says PM to His Constituency of Varanasi: Highlights

Varanasi: PM Narendra Modi is visiting his constituency Varanasi for the first time since he took charge.

Following are the highlights of his speech at Jayapur:

• It's a privilege to associate with Jayapur village
• Jayapur is adopting me, not the other way round
• I can't learn things by sitting with babus, need the experience of villagers
• Lots to learn from experience of those in the village
• Adopting village under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana for MPs

• I want them to see for themselves whether the place has progressed. I know they've come far
• Systems that have been in place for the last 60 years are full of loopholes
• People need to take initiative for development of villages
• We should be more attached to villages, the young generation lacks that connection
• We should work together towards building an ideal village
• I say when a daughter is born, the whole family should celebrate the occasion like a festival
• But this doesn't happen. Birth of a daughter is a reason of gloom in the family
• When a daughter is born, plant a tree. 20 years later, you can sell 5 trees for her wedding

• Wanted to visit Varanasi earlier, but it was rescheduled because of Cyclone Hudhud
• Varanasi has a very special place in my heart
• I am here as your Sevak, am going to be with you in times of happiness and sadness
• After agriculture, if there is a sector generating maximum employment, it is textiles
• 20 crore girls will get married in the next few years, which means that many Banarasi sarees will be needed
• Banarasi saree doesn't need any introduction, everyone knows about it
• E-business is increasing. There are opportunities in the global market
• Want younger generation to take up weaving with pride
• Textile sector needs comprehensive vision, modern technology
