I face threat from Chhattisgarh govt: Binayak Sen
Kolkata:

Prominent rights activist Binayak Sen, who was in jail for two years for alleged links with Maoists, on Friday said some senior police officers have told him that there was a "specific" threat to him from within the Chhattisgarh government.

"I have senior friends in police service outside Chhattisgarh who have informed me that there is a specific threat to my life within the Chhattisgarh government and they have asked me to be careful," Sen, who was released on bail four days ago, said.

The 59-year-old activist, winner of  2008 Jonathan Mann Award for Global Health and Human Rights, was languishing behind bars for the past two years after the state government accused him of helping Maoists in the state.

"I certainly felt safer inside the jail and already there is information (that there is a threat). They (friendly police officers) have asked me to be careful," Sen said.

Various human right groups had drawn attention to Sen's incarceration while a group of  22 Nobel laureates petitioned the Indian government for his release.
