I faced racism in Australia: NDTV.com surfer

Udaipur:

I was a resident in Brisbane, Australia, for more than four years. I went to study there in 2000 for Masters in Information Technology. Then, I was employed there in the Qeensland University of Technology.

I came back to open a school in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Now this school has produced good students with strong ethical values. That is to love India and Indians. We celebrate Independence Day and Republic Day at a very grand level as I have a great affinity towards the national functions. I want my students to feel the same way about India. And when Indians are hurt at some part of the world, I am hurt.

As a student in Australia, I suffered some racial attacks. One of them came from my professor.  "Indians can be good labours only... they can't become managers... like Red Indians." We felt bad but did not report that abuse. The only way to answer was to get good grades.

But I figured out that this racism was more in Queensland than in metros like Sydney and Melbourne. These places have a vast diversified culture.

Whatever is happening in Australia at this point is truly the fault of the government there. None of the universities have reacted so far. I was just wondering about this as they have a clause in their Overseas Students Guild about reporting sexual or racial abuse, but are they limited to only their own campus. The students are studying in the universities, they should have reacted.
