I have unfinished business in Maharashtra: Prithviraj Chavan to NDTV
New Delhi: Amid speculation of a cabinet reshuffle, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan told NDTV that he has unfinished business in Maharashtra and that portfolios back with the Congress will go to other states.

Though with reports surfacing that he might be shifted back to New Delhi, Mr Chavan added that the "leadership's decision will be for the best and he will continue with his duties."

"The Chief Minister's job is more hands-on, working from Delhi is policy oriented," Mr Chavan added.

Mr Chavan, who is in Delhi, said that he is in the national capital for state-related meetings.

"I have come to Delhi for state-related meetings. Whenever I meet the PM, I discuss my state-related problems," he told NDTV.

There have been reports of growing tension between Union Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Mr Chavan in Maharashtra. Together they run the government in the state. The NCP has reportedly accused Mr Chavan of inefficiency and under-performance.

"There are no tensions with the NCP, there are only differences of perceptions at times," Mr Chavan said today, adding, "All unfinished projects are still to be completed in the state."

Sources have suggested that the Congress leadership may consider bringing back Mr Chavan to New Delhi and hand the top post in Maharashtra to one of the other senior leaders in the state government. Maharashtra's Industry Minister Narayan Rane met Congress President Sonia Gandhi earlier this month, fueling speculation about a change of guard in the state.

When Prithviraj Chavan was deputed from Delhi to take over as chief minister in November 2010, his brief from his party was to decontaminate the Maharashtra branch of the Congress.  In three terms in power, the Congress and its partner, NCP, had been accused of engineering and permitting systematic graft.
