Chandigarh:
After 19 years of untold trauma, Ruchika's family members are finally speaking out against former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore.
The top cop was given six months in prison for molesting a 14-year-old budding tennis player who later committed suicide.
An increasing number of evidence is now emerging on how Ruchika's family was hounded, harassed and traumatised by the influential policeman. (Read & Watch: March for Ruchika outside teen molester's door)
Ruchika's brother Ashu Girhotra has recorded his ordeal in an affidavit.
In the affidavit, Ashu says he had to undergo inhuman torture at the instance of Rathore. He says, "I was terrorised and not given food or water for days at a stretch and was beaten mercilessly. I was paraded in handcuffs in front of my house while police abused my sister."
A couple of days later, he says he learnt that his sister had committed suicide.
Ashu says he was kept in police custody for more than two months from October 23, 1993 to December 29.
Ruchika's father Subhash Girhotra has also lashed out at the powers which he say protected Rathore and did not allow justice to be done. (Read & Watch: Ruchika's father demands justice)
"He was the DGP. Whom could we complain to? The chief minister was supporting him. Where were we to go?" he said. Chautala was the chief minister of Haryana at that time.
"The home secretary Mr Duggal has admitted and it is a huge thing. The home secretary has said - 'An offence was committed, action has been recommended in the inquiry report, but under political pressure we could not lodge an FIR.' What this political pressure was, he can explain better," he added.
