An FIR was lodged against Anubrata Mondal for casting his vote wearing party symbol on his kurta inside the booth yesterday.

Suri: A day after the Election Commission ordered lodging of two FIRs against Birbhum district Trinamool Congress president Anubrata Mondal, the controversial leader today left for poll campaigning in neighbouring Ausgram constituency in Burdwan district.

Mr Mondal, who is in charge of party's campaign in Ausgram where elections will take place on April 21, said he got the EC notices and will reply after consulting his lawyers.

"I have full respect for the EC," Mr Mondal said before boarding a vehicle for Ausgram.

Two FIRs were lodged against Mr Mondal for moving out of the constituency he belonged to on April 16 despite being told by the District Election officer of Birbhum not to do so, and for casting his vote wearing party symbol on his kurta inside the booth yesterday.

The FIRs are under Section 188 of the IPC (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and relevant election related laws.

Mr Mondal had further been accused of making derogatory statements against candidates of rival political parties which are violative of the provisions of the model code of conduct during election.
