Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai, which will be implementing 27 per cent quota for OBCs in three phases following Supreme Court order in April, has already begun processing the nine per cent OBC quota for post-graduation and doctoral courses.
In addition to the nine per cent OBC, there would be 4.1 per cent increase in intake in 2008, making the overall intake in every course to 13.10 per cent, Director Ashok Misra said.
In effect, the intake of IIT for all the courses including Ph D, M Tech, MBA, M Phil and M Sc and the under-graduation this academic year will be 13.10 per cent in order to maintain the number of students in the general category, Misra said.
Since the institute will be taking the OBCs in three phases due to lack of infrastructure and staff strength, the overall increase in the intake of students in the next three years will be 54 per cent, Misra said.
The admission for undergraduates will begin from June once the IIT-JEE results are out.
