IIT student waiting for passport for 2 years

Kanpur: An IIT student's dream of continuing her higher studies in the United States hangs in balance as she is yet to get her passport, application for which was filed two years back.

A PhD student of Chemical Engineering at IIT Kanpur, Vishnu Maya, had applied for her passport two years ago but her document was issued in the name of a Muslim woman and she had to apply for it again.

",Since then I am waiting for my passport. I have to go to California, USA, for a post doctorate degree course this month only and still there is no information about my document,", Maya, a resident of Gorakhpur, said.

The Kanpur Police swung into action for sometime and did her police verification in June this year when she had sought information about the status of her passport by filing an RTI application but there were no further development.

After running from pillar to post, she finally approached Kanpur SSP Ashok Singh and sought his help.

",We have found Maya's passport application at Crime Branch's office after a through search and sent it to Lucknow.

She will soon get her document,", Singh said.

",We are also investing into the reasons of the delay,", Singh added.
