IIT student's diary gives police clues on murder

New Delhi: A student of IIT Delhi has been arrested for the murder of a 19-year-old girl from Nagaland.

According to the police, the accused Pushkar Sinha, a 34-year-old PhD student from IIT Delhi, who happened to be the girl's neighbour, has confessed to killing her.

The two had reportedly participated in some Diwali celebration together. Police have recovered a diary kept by the IIT student in which he allegedly wrote of his frustration about his interest not being reciprocated.

Post-mortem report suggests that he first killed her and then tried to make it look like an accident by burning her body. After detailed interrogations, the IIT student was arrested on charges of murder.

Affectionately called Affy, the girl was found murdered in New Delhi on Sunday. She had reportedly come to Delhi two months ago to visit her sister in Munirka village.

"He had been troubling her for a while, was following her. She was scared of him," said a friend of the girl.

The girl's body has been taken away by her relatives.
