Jammu:

Days after being beset with various controversies, the recently formed Jammu and Kashmir government today took a major decision at a cabinet meeting in Jammu regarding transfer of bureaucrats and police officers.

"Today's cabinet meet is in a way first business meeting. As all of you know that this cabinet has arrived in a perspective which is marked by an outrage at the national level and within the state on various issues especially lack of probity, lack of accountability in administration," ruling Peoples Democratic Party or PDP's spokesperson Naeem Akhtar told reporters in Jammu.

"We thought that the new government's first major challenge is to try and give a major face-lift to the
administration so that credibility is restored," he said, adding that "Sincere effort has been made to make the best use of the available human resources" so that the staff is ultilised in the "best possible way".

The meeting also saw a concern being raised over the lack of a state public services commission.

The cabinet meeting comes after a row over Jammu and Kashmir state flag, release of hardline separatist leader Masarat Alam besides Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed 's remarks crediting Pakistan and Hurriyat for successful elections.
