Ludhiana: The motorcycle used by two unidentified men who shot and killed a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader on Tuesday was recovered today, according to the Ludhiana police. The police said the two men abandoned the motorcycle about 12 km from the scene of the crime.
RSS leader Ravinder Gosain was returning from a morning drill, or "shakha", when the two masked men on the motorcycle shot him in the Kailash Nagar locality in Ludhiana. Mr Gosain died instantly, while the attackers fled immediately after the shooting took place.
The police said they are verifying the details of the motorcycle, which was found on GT road near the outskirts of the city. Police Commissioner RN Dhoke said the motorcycle is a key find that will help speed up the investigation, as it gives the police an idea about what route the attackers took to escape.
"This has made easier for us to trace the killers. This clue of route used by assailants will definitely help us in the investigations." he said.
According to the Commissioner, police have already started analysing CCTV footage from the route the attackers are suspected of taking.
"The assailants had used the flyover while passing through Slemtabri chowk after killing the RSS leader. That is why they escaped CCTV cameras installed under the bridge on the G T Road there under the 'Safe City Project'" Mr Dhoke said.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh has raised the killing of Ravindra Gosain with Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh and urged him to have the matter investigated thoroughly and speedily, former Punjab BJP chief Kamal Sharma said.
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi also condemned the murder, asking for the guilty to be brought to justice.
