Trinamool Congress MPs protest outside Parlimant House

New Delhi: Draped in black shawls, Trinamool Congress MPs today staged a protest outside Parliament House against the arrest of West Bengal Minister Madan Mitra in the Saradha chit fund case, accusing the Centre of misusing the Central Bureau of Investigation or CBI.

Displaying placards with slogans like 'PM, Amit Shah Bengal is angry', members of the Trinamool Congress Parliamentary Party raised slogans.

Some of the MPs also displayed photographs of Sahara group chief Subrata Roy shaking hands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Trinamool has alleged that a diary -- detailing financial transactions -- recovered from Mr Roy had the name of BJP President Amit Shah. But the BJP had dismissed the allegation.

The Trinamool MPs alleged that the CBI was being "misused" to suit the interests of the ruling dispensation at the Centre.

The protesting MPs said they would raise the issue in both Houses of Parliament.

Soon after the CBI arrested state Sports and Transport Minister Madan Mitra on Friday evening in the Saradha scam, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had slammed the ruling BJP at the Centre, Prime Minister Modi and Mr Shah, saying the arrest was "a conspiracy to destroy democracy in the country".
