Ahmedabad: Just days after Gujarat Assembly Speaker Ganpat Vasava tested positive for swine flu, today it was the turn of Minister of State for Health Shankar Chaudhary.
Government sources said that the laboratory test report for the minister came only on Monday evening, the day the budget session of the Gujarat assembly began. The minister was seen moving around in the assembly premises during the opening day.
The government has come in for severe criticism from the opposition Congress alleging that it had failed to tackle the swine flu surge in the state which has so far claimed 219 lives this year.
The opposition also staged a walkout on the first day of the budget session expressing disapproval of the steps taken by the government to tackle swine flu.
In the last 24 hours, 230 new cases were reported from across the state taking the total number of swine flu cases since January 1 to 3337. The last 24 hours have also seen 12 deaths.
