Srinagar: Two ceasefire violations took place in Jammu and Kashmir today, as the 16-hour gunbattle at Tangdhar with infiltrating militants wound down.
A BSF constable at International Border in Jammu's Heeranagar Sector got injured following an unprovoked burst of fire from Pakistan side. He sustained bullet injury in both his legs. The BSF troops retaliated.
In Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district, Pakistani troops opened fire at night to provide covering fire to infiltrating militants, said Army sources. The infiltration bid was defeated.
Three terrorists were killed in the infiltration attempt near the Line of Control in Tangdhar sector in Poonch district. A search is underway for a fourth who is believed to have escaped.
The fighting erupted after a group of heavily-armed infiltrators were intercepted in the early hours of Sunday. The Army fired mortars and machine guns at the two houses where the infiltrators had holed up.
"There were multiple blasts as the terrorists were carrying a large quantity of ammunition that went off," the officer said. The bodies were recovered along with three weapons.
This was the second infiltration bid by terrorists in the Tangdhar sector in a week -- three soldiers and a terrorist were killed during an encounter on May 25.
In Srinagar, meanwhile, an explosion took place near a mobile tower this morning. The police are investigating whether it was a grenade attack by militants.
Last week, terrorists shot down two men and threatened to kill employees working for mobile phone companies.
Posters appeared in north Kashmir's Sopore, warning phone companies to shut their operations and people to stop leasing out land to telecom towers.
