In late night tweet, Delhi Police expresses 'regret' for violence during protests
New Delhi: After strong criticism for the way they handled the protests in the capital over the weekend, the Delhi Police has now apologised.

In a late night tweet on Monday, the Delhi Police said, ""We sincerely regret if any innocent protester was hurt or lathi-charged and apologise."

The Delhi police has been slammed for using what many termed as 'excessive force' to rein in the protests that turned violent. There were repeated clashes on the weekend at the protest sites.

The protests this weekend in Delhi resulted in a series of clashes with the police, which used batons, water-cannons, and teargas on the crowd. Miscreants, who infiltrated the protesters, set a car on fire and rushed police barricades, before setting wooden benches on fire.
