Bhopal:
A woman in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district sold her son for Rs 50,000 five years ago and the incident came to light when the boy managed to escape from the confines of his 'buyers'.
After her husband Narayan Barman, a labourer, died in 2011, Lakshmi found it difficult to make both ends meet while bringing up her son Shivam, police said today.
On being suggested, she sold Shivam to Jahangir Ali and Guddu Ali, both residents of Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh.
According to police, Shivam was staying with Jahangir's family for the last five years. On June 10, he escaped and managed to meet the members of child welfare committee in Mirzapur. Police traced his mother on June 18.
A police officer said that Lakshmi has been arrested and the search for the two Mirzapur residents is on.
