Ahead of Maharashtra Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today gave a pep talk to party workers in Mumbai, telling them that they should go to the people with confidence and work in unison for "Congress-free" state.
Addressing a gathering of party workers, Mr Modi referred to the recent Lok Sabha elections and said that for the first time a non-Congress government got the mandate which has raised the hopes of people.
"For the first time, non-Congress government got majority. After the BJP-led government took over, people have a feeling that the country is going forward," he said.
Internationally also, there is hope with regard to India, Mr Modi added.
BJP, led by Mr Modi, won a landslide mandate in the Lok Sabha elections held in April-May.
"In Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha elections, the party should go ahead with confidence of victory. The confidence of the BJP cadres in BJP is intact," the Prime Minister said.
"All workers should be united for Congress-mukt (Congress- free) Maharashtra," he said.
Assembly elections in Maharashtra are due in October.
"He came, he spoke, he conquered," said state BJP president Devendra Fadnavis while describing Mr Modi's interaction with the party functionaries.
"Modi discussed the party's poll preparedness. He also sought our opinion about functioning of the BJP-led government at the Centre," a state BJP spokesperson said after the meeting.
"He was keen that those occupying the last rows should come forward and participate in the interaction," the spokesperson said.
