Chandigarh: Three people, including assistant jail superintendent, were arrested by Patiala Police on charges of conspiracy and abetment in the Nabha jailbreak case.
Bheem Singh, assistant jail superintendent, Jagmeet Singh, head warder and Tejinder Sharma, owner of Shagun sweets shop were arrested for facilitating the jailbreak and escape of criminals.
A First Information Report or FIR has been filed against the three accused with the Nabha Kotwali police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act.
Punjab DGP Suresh Arora had hinted at an insider job in the jailbreak and the SIT formed to investigate the case booked them on basis of initial probe findings.
Bheem Singh had allegedly met the accused a day before their daring escape and his mobile phone was used for plotting the escape of prisoners, police claimed. He was dismissed from service on Sunday itself within few hours of the jailbreak.
The Uttar Pradesh Police had on Sunday evening arrested Palwinder Singh Pinda, one of the attackers. Pinda - arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district - had confessed to having dropped Mintoo and Kashmir Singh, in Kaithal (Haryana).
Six undertrials, including two terrorists and four gangsters had escaped from Nabha high security jail on Sunday morning. At least 10 armed men dressed up in police uniform broke into the high-security jail in Patiala district. One of the escapee was the Chief of Khalistan Liberation Front Harminder Singh Mintoo. He was arrested by Delhi police special cell on Monday morning from Delhi's Nizamuddin railway station while he was trying to board a train to Goa.
