Indore: Abdul has no words to express his gratitude to this unknown donor who gave a new life to his 36-year-old wife Shaheen by donating kidney. His wife was on dialysis for last two years.
"The family has gifted life to my wife, so I will be going to meet them and thank them. We are planning to pledge our organs as well," Mr Abdul said. Shaheen underwent a kidney-transplant surgery on Monday.
In November last year, when 59-year-old Ramesh Asrani died due to illness, his family decided to donate his organs despite facing opposition from relatives. Today Ramesh's organs have saved five lives.
"I never thought about organ donation but heard about it at a public prayer meeting. Anyway we would have cremated him, it's good we donated his organs this way my husband lives in others," said Savita Asrani, wife of Ramesh Asrani.
In the last 3 months in Indore, eighth green corridors have been formed for quick delivery of donated organs for transplant. The likes of non-profit organisations Muskaan and the district administration are working together to promote the organ donation practice.
The donors' families are being given incentives like free medical insurance and the authorities are making an effort to ensure hassle-free donation process to promote the practice.
"So first we worked on a web site which is a one stop shop for all information to potential donors. It's also a platform for hospitals, medical professionals and donor1. This has been very motivating as over 10,000 people from Indore have pledged to donate their organs," said Sanjay Dubey of Indore Division Commission.
