New Delhi:
The government has ordered an Income Tax inquiry against former Chief Justice of India, KG Balakrishnan.
The Home Ministry has commissioned the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to study complaints of disproportionate wealth accumulated by Mr Balakrishnan.
The inquiry is based on a letter sent by activist Prashant Bhushan, who is also playing a major role in the drafting of the new Lokpal Bill, aimed at checking corruption among politicians and bureaucrats.
Mr Balakrishnan retired on May 12, 2010.
