Baksa: Indefinite curfew continues in parts of Assam's Baksa district, a day after all four bodies of people kidnapped by suspected National Democratic Front of Bodoland militants, were recovered.
Baksa is part of Assam's Bodoland Territorial Council-administered districts, and in May this year, suspected militants had killed about 50 people in a firing incident.
The four people killed were lemon traders, picked up by suspected militants from a village in Baksa district, where they had gone from an adjoining district.
In another incident on Sunday, cops had to fire in the air to enforce the curfew and to stop a violent protest by locals who assaulted a police officer taking three of the four bodies for a post-mortem. The cops also had to resort to a lathi-charge.
Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans have been deployed in large numbers to maintain peace in the district. Army has been called in and kept as stand by.
