India Against Corruption members clash with Delhi Police outside Haryana Chief Minister's residence
New Delhi: Members of civil society group India Against Corruption (IAC) clashed with the Delhi Police today during a protest outside Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda's residence at Pandit Pant Marg in central Delhi. The activists were protesting against the Haryana government for allegedly favouring and facilitating land deals between Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, and realty major DLF.

After the protesters broke barricades, the police used water cannons and then lathi-charged to contain them. Several of the protesters were detained and taken to the Parliament Street station. Seven person were also injured in the clashes and were taken to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in Central Delhi.

A senior police official said they were forced to resort to use force to disperse the crowd.

Activist-politician Arvind Kejriwal, who is the one of the most prominent leaders of the India Against Corruption group, was however not present at the protest. He later visited the injured activists in the hospital.

Reacting to the incident, Mr Kejriwal said people were "peacefully" protesting against Mr Vadra and Mr Hooda.

"This is the way government is reacting to a peaceful protest, which is a Constitutional right. They are brutally attacking people, which is completely unacceptable in a democracy. How can a government treat its people like this?" he said.

Mr Kejriwal had alleged a nexus between the Haryana Government, DLF and Robert Vadra over land deals which was denied by them.
