Coronavirus LIVE Updates: 42,618 Fresh COVID-19 Cases In India, 6% Lower Than Yesterday

Coronavirus Live Updates: Kerala continued to register a record number of infections with the state reporting 29,322 new cases and 131 deaths. The state has reported a test positivity rate of 17.91 per cent.

India has been running the largest vaccination drive against coronavirus since January 16 (File)

New Delhi:

India today logged 42,618 cases, a drop of 6 per cent from yesterday. About 330 deaths were recorded during the period, according to the Health Ministry. Active cases constitute 1.23% of the total cases.

Kerala continued to register a record number of infections with the state reporting 29,322 new cases and 131 deaths. The state has reported a test positivity rate of 17.91 per cent.

1.3 Lakh Vaccinated In Mumbai On Saturday
A total of 1.3 lakh people were vaccinated on Saturday in Mumbai, resulting in 80 per cent of eligible beneficiaries getting the first dose, making the metropolis the top ranked in terms of inoculation percentage, a civic official said, reported PTI.

Bengal Logs 700 Covid Cases, 8 Related Deaths In 24 Hours
Bengal's coronavirus death count rose to 18,491 on Saturday after eight patients died, while 700 new cases pushed the overall case tally to 15,51,364, a bulletin issued by the health department said, reported PTI.

South 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur districts reported two deaths each. Of the 700 new cases, 129 were reported from Kolkata and 115 from North 24 Parganas, the bulletin said.

Nagaland on Saturday reported 58 new Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to 30,302, a health department bulletin said, reported PTI. With no related fatalities on Saturday, the death count remained unchanged at 626.

10 Covid Deaths, 542 Cases In Assam In 24 Hours
Assam on Saturday reported 542 cases of coronavirus, 22 less than Friday, with the overall tally rising to 5,91,659, a bulletin issued by the National Health Mission (NHM) said, reported PTI.

Ten related fatalities took the death count to 5,693, it said. The number of active cases declined to 5,056 as against 5,158 recorded the previous day.

COVID-19 India News: Telangana Reports 306 New Cases, 3 More Deaths
Telangana on Saturday reported 306 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 6,59,313, while three more fatalities took the death count to 3,883, reported PTI. Recoveries outnumbered fresh cases on Saturday with 366 people recuperating from the infectious disease, taking the cumulative number so far to 6,49,757. The number of active cases was 5,673, the bulletin said.

A total of 69,422 samples were tested on Saturday, pushing the total number of specimens examined till date to 2,49,17,603. The samples tested per million population was 6,69,468. The Case Fatality Rate in the state was 0.58 per cent, while it was 1.3 per cent at the national level. The recovery rate in Telangana was 98.55 per cent, while it was 97.40 per cent in the country.

COVID-19 India News: J&K Reports 116 New Cases, One More Death
Jammu and Kashmir's COVID-19 tally increased to 3,25,830 on Saturday with 116 fresh cases, while the death count climbed to 4,410 as one more person died due to the disease, officials said, according to news agency PTI. Of the fresh cases, 85 were reported from the Kashmir division and 31 from the Jammu division of the union territory, they said. Srinagar district recorded the highest number of fresh cases at 47, followed by 14 each in Pulwama and Doda districts.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir stands at 1,327. So far, 3,20,093 patients have recovered from the disease, the officials said. There are 45 Mucormycosis (Black Fungus) cases in the union territory. No fresh case has been reported since last evening, they said.

COVID-19 News: Japan To Extend State Of Emergency In Tokyo Area: Report
The Japanese government plans to extend a state of emergency in and around Tokyo until the last week of September in a further bid to contain the coronavirus epidemic, the Mainichi newspaper reported on Saturday, according to Reuters. Japan had last month expanded the emergency curbs to cover about 80% of its population until September 12, but the number of severe cases and the strain on the medical system have not eased sufficiently in Tokyo and surrounding areas to allow the restrictions to be lifted. The government plans to extend them by about two weeks in Tokyo and Kanagawa, Saitama and Chiba prefectures, the Mainichi said, without citing sources.

COVID-19 News: Bahrain Approves Booster Shot Of Sputnik-V Vaccine
Bahrain has authorised the use of a booster dose of the Sputnik-V COVID-19 vaccine, the first time the Russian shot has been approved for a third dose, the state-run Bahrain News Agency said on Saturday, reported Reuters. The booster shot was approved for use among all over-18s at least six months after receiving their second dose of the Sputnik-V vaccine, the news agency reported. Bahrain and the UAE have already approved third booster shots using Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

COVID-19 India News: Delhi Reports Zero Covid Deaths For 4th Straight Day, 55 New Cases
Delhi reported zero Covid deaths for the fourth straight day, according to data shared by the city health department. The cumulative death count in the city stands at 25,082, it said. The city also reported 55 fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total cases in the city to 14,37,929. The positivity rate stood at 0.08%, according to the health department's latest bulletin. It reported 35 positive cases on Friday, 39 cases on Thursday, 36 cases on Wednesday and 28 on Tuesday. COVID-19 News: Philippines Lifts Travel Ban On India, 9 Other Countries
The Philippines on Saturday decided to welcome travellers from India and nine other countries from September 6, according to a Presidential Palace announcement, reported news agency PTI. The announcement came even as the country recorded its second highest number of COVID-19 cases with 20,310 infections on Friday, pushing the national tally to 2.04 million, The Manila Times newspaper reported. The other countries are Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, an official said.

COVID-19 News: Negative Report Must For Passengers From India To Turkey: Embassy
Passengers from India to Turkey will be required from Saturday to submit a negative COVID-19 report from RT-PCR test done not more than 72 hours before arrival, the Turkish Embassy in New Delhi said, according to PTI. The rule will also apply to those passengers who have been in India in the 14 days prior to their travel to Turkey.

In the updated rules for travellers from India to Turkey, the embassy said that effective from September 4, passengers who certify they have had at least two doses (single dose for Johnson & Johnson) of the vaccines approved for emergency use by the WHO or Turkey, provided that at least 14 days have passed since the last dose, will be exempted from mandatory quarantine.

Passengers who cannot provide the above mentioned certificate will be quarantined in their residence or the address they will declare, the statement said.

COVID-19 India News: 118 Children Among 681 New Cases In Odisha
Coronavirus infection among children continued to rise in Odisha even as the total number of new cases dropped to 681 on Saturday, a Health Department official said, according to PTI. The state had reported 849 new cases on Friday, he said. Among new patients, diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, there were 118 children, which was 17.32% of the total fresh cases detected. It was 14.13% on the previous day, the official said. Odisha has so far reported 10.1 lakh cases.

Five more people died in the state, taking the death count to 8,040. There are 7,186 active cases in the state at present, while 9.95 lakh patients have recovered, including 835 on Friday. The new cases were detected after testing 67,229 samples.

COVID-19 India News: Puducherry Reports 120 New Cases, One More Death
The Union Territory of Puducherry recorded 120 new cases of coronavirus after testing 5,017 samples during the last 24 hours ending 10 am on Saturday, taking the overall tally to 1,24,049, Health department director G Sriramulu said, reported PTI. With one more person from Mahe dying due to the infection, the death count has risen to 1,816, he said.

Active cases now stood at 937. Of them, 172 people are being treated in hospitals while the rest are in home isolation, the official said. The department has so far tested16.63 lakh samples and of them 14.12 lakh samples were found to be negative. He said 76 patients recovered and were discharged during the last 24 hours, pushing the overall recoveries to 1,21,296.
