Jharkhand on Sunday did not report any fresh coronavirus death for the first time during the ongoing second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, but 239 new cases pushed the state's tally to 3,43,304, a health bulletin said.

The state now has 3,966 active cases, while the coronavirus death count remained unchanged at 5,082. A total of 3,34,256 people have recovered from the disease thus far, including 493 in the last 24 hours, the bulletin said.

G7 agrees 1 billion COVID vaccine donation
Group of Seven countries will provide 1 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses over the next year and work with the private sector, the G20 and other countries to increase the contribution over months to come, according to an almost finalised draft of the communique.

"The commitments since we last met in February 2021 including here in Carbis Bay provide for 1 billion doses over the next year," said the communique, seen by Reuters.

"We will work together with the private sector, the G20 and other countries to increase this contribution over the months to come," the communique said.

Two Reuters sources said the draft had been largely finalised by diplomats who worked late into Saturday night to agree most of the text, though they said parts of the draft could change over coming hours.

COVID-19: Delhi logs 255 new cases, 23 more deaths
The national capital recorded 255 new COVID-19 cases and 23 fatalities, the lowest since April 7, on Sunday, while the positivity rate stood at 0.35 per cent, the health department said.
The city had recorded 28 deaths on Saturday, 24 on Friday, 44 on Thursday and 36 on Wednesday.

Jammu and Kashmir has taken its vaccination drive to remote villages even reaching nomadic people of Rajouri's Dhar village.

Majurim, a nomadic tribal said, "We are really thankful that the healthcare workers came here for vaccination because our village is a remote area and it is very far from mainstream. We only live here for 6 months as in summer the sunlight reaches here, after 6 months we shift to low area of the valley."

Other healthcare workers also came from a far-flung area to get vaccinated as the vaccination drive began in the village.

WHO chief asks China to cooperate with probe into origins of COVID-19
World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Ghebreyesus has called on China to cooperate with the ongoing investigation into the origins of the COVID-19 amid renewed call to further probe the virus.

Dr Tedros made these remarks after taking part in the Group of Seven (G7) summit by video conference on Saturday, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported. The WHO Director-General hoped there would be better cooperation and transparency when the next phase of the probe into the virus''s origin is underway.

"As you know we will need cooperation from the Chinese side," he said. "We need transparency to understand or know or find the origin of this virus...after the report was released there were difficulties in the data sharing, especially in the raw data."

He further said that the preparations for the probe's next steps were underway and that the issue of the origin of the virus was discussed by G7 leaders on Saturday, WSJ reported.
