Lockdown has been extended in Delhi for another week, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said, pointing to the Covid numbers which while on decline, is yet to reach below 5 per cent positivity rate.
Meanwhile, India logged 3.11 lakh fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours, taking the overall caseload to 2.43 crore. The country recorded 4,077 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths to 2.7 lakh.
The country has recording more than 1 lakh infections every day since April 5. With a drop in Covid cases lately, nearly 40 lakh cases have been logged in the last 10 days alone.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held a high-level meeting to review India's Covid situation. PM Modi suggested "localised containment strategies are the need of the hour specially for states where TPR (test positivity rate) is high". He also told officials to ensure rural parts get supply of medical oxygen, states are not pressured to supress Covid figures and vaccination drive is ramped up.

An anti-coronavirus drug developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will be launched tomorrow, with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh distributing around 10,000 doses to some hospitals in the national capital. The drug, called 2-deoxy-D-glucose or 2-DG, was developed by a DRDO lab in collaboration with the Hyderabad-based pharma giant, Dr Reddy's Laboratories. The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), the country's top drug regulator, has approved the medicine for emergency use.
After multiple reports of bodies of suspected COVID-19 patients being found by the Ganga River in parts of Uttar Pradesh all through last week, police units in different districts across the state have stepped up patrolling.
Jammu and Kashmir has recorded 4,141 fresh COVID-19 cases, raising the tally to 2,44,608, while 59 more deaths pushed the fatality count to 3,149 in the union territory, officials said. Of the fresh cases, 1,690 were reported from the Jammu division and 2,451 from the Kashmir division, they said. The officials said Srinagar district recorded the highest of 831 cases, followed by 625 in Jammu district and 320 in Budgam district.
Triple lockdown will come into effect in four Kerala districts reporting the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the state, from midnight and remain in force till May 23. The boundaries of the Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram districts will be sealed as part of the administration's bid to arrest the massive spread of coronavirus, while the current lockdown will continue in the other 10 districts of the state.
The Punjab government has ordered extension of all existing restrictions due to coronavirus outbreak till May 31 amid a continuous rise in COVID-19 positivity rate in the state.
