New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today called on visiting Bangladesh President Md Abdul Hamid and conveyed to him that there was "wish" and "will" on the part of the new government in India to strengthen bilateral ties with that country.
Both the leaders discussed various bilateral and regional issues during the meeting.
"Wish is there & will is there to strengthen our bilateral ties - Minister @SushmaSwaraj to Bangladesh's President," External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted.
Ms Swaraj had visited Bangladesh in June which was her first stand-alone visit after becoming External Affairs Minister. Mr Hamid also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed issues relating to economic cooperation and connectivity between the two countries besides development of the region.
The Bangladesh President also held talks with his counterpart Pranab Mukherjee.
It is the first-ever visit by a ceremonial head of Bangladesh to India.
