Speaking to editors from television news channels in New Delhi today, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said that India was better prepared to tackle the challenges posed by terrorism to its internal security.
Dr Manmohan Singh added the government deserved some credit for this.
He welcomed the talks with the leaders of the United Liberation Front of Asom. "In the north-east, things are getting normalised. Talks have begun with the ULFA and they will have far reaching consequences for the region. "
This is the first time in 31 years that the top ULFA leadership has agreed to talks with the Indian government.
On Jammu and Kashmir, the Prime Minister said, "The situation is now under control and people there can look forward to orderly development of processes. This will bring hope to youth there as development will bring employment opportunities."
He mentioned the work of the committee headed by former Reserve Bank Governor C Rangarajan which is tasked with formulating a comprehensive employment plan for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
