The BJP today in parliament slammed a resolution passed by the Pakistani parliament condemning the hanging in Delhi last month of Afzal Guru. The resolution also demanded the return of Guru's body to his family.
The Lok Sabha may pass a resolution in retaliation to Pakistan's resolution. A draft has reportedly been prepared and the government is consulting all major political parties.
In the Rajya Sabha today, BJP leader Arun Jaitley said India must stop its dialogue with Pakistan. The opposition yesterday had made the same point when Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde informed parliament that the terrorists who attacked a paramilitary (CRPF) camp in Srinagar this week, killing five jawans, were most likely Pakistani.
"If India can be kicked around in this manner internationally, there is something seriously wrong with how we are managing our affairs," Mr Jaitley said, referring to the tension with Pakistan and Italy's refusal to send back two marines to face murder charges for shooting two Kerala fishermen.
Yesterday, after Pakistan's resolution on Afzal Guru, Minister for External Affairs Salman Khurshid said, "'This shows Pakistan's unhealthy interest in matters of our country."
"Pakistan should restrict themselves to their issues," Mr Khurshid added.
Guru, who was 43, was hanged and buried in a top-secret operation at Delhi's Tihar Jail for assisting in the 2001 attack on parliament in which 13 people were killed.
His execution and the government's refusal to return his body to his family in Kashmir triggered large protests in the state.
The resolution in Pakistan was moved by the lower house of parliament two days before it completes its five-year term. The resolution was moved by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who heads a special parliamentary panel on Kashmir.
