Students take a selfie with PM Narendra Modi in Brisbane.
Brisbane:
When Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane today, officials accompanying him objected to an improper map of India displayed at the event, with parts of Jammu and Kashmir missing.
Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh, who was with PM Modi, "raised the issue and received an unqualified apology" from the university authorities, said a tweet by the Ministry of External Affairs.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin, responding to angry tweets, said
A Twitter handle named Samajwadi Party, with an image of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, had asked Mr Akbaruddin: "Kashmir missing in the Map shown during @PMOIndia visit to @QUT @MEAIndia any objection raised? (sic)"
Mr Modi visited the university in his first engagement after landing in Brisbane on Friday.
Mr Modi is in Australia to attend the G-20 Summit in Brisbane and will also hold talks with Prime Minister Tony Abbott in Canberra.
