New Delhi:
Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh attends a climate change summit in the US next week and it's one more attempt to garner political consensus on climate change.
"India will not buckle down on climate change, we will not accept legally binding emission cut," said Jairam Ramesh, Environment Minister.
That's the message, the Environment Minister is taking with him to New York where world leaders are meeting on September 22 to discuss climate change.
"I repeat what our PM has been saying that India wants to be part of the solution," further said the Environment Minister.
There has been intense pressure on the developing world to meet emission cut targets set by the US but India says for now this is simply not possible.
"The US and others can't hide behind the shield of India, China etc they have to take their own stand and comparing situations is just not an option here," Ramesh added.
There is so much riding on Copenhagen with many experts feeling that this is the last big chance for the international community to come together and battle climate change but with countries like America, India and China pulled in different directions because of domestic compulsions it remains to be seen whether they can in fact, think of a worthy successor to the Kyoto protocol.
