New Delhi:
India today summoned the Pakistan deputy high commissioner over the "shoot and scoot" killing of an Indian fisherman by Pakistani security personnel and asked that the incident be thoroughly probed.
Deputy High Commissioner Mansoor Ahmad Khan was summoned to the South Block and it was "conveyed to him that the government of India condemns the incident of indiscriminatory firing on unarmed Indian fishermen by a vessel of the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency near the Indo-Pakistan international maritime boundary line on October 11, 2013 which led to the death of an Indian fishermen".
"The Pakistani deputy high commissioner was informed that it is of great concern that an incident of this nature has taken place amidst the stated desire by Pakistan for peaceful, friendly and cooperative ties with India."
"We have asked that the incident be thoroughly investigated and its results be shared at an early date," said the official spokesperson.
Indian fisherman Naran Bhai Sosa was killed in the shooting incident on Saturday.
An Indian source said Sunday that "while fishermen and boats have been previously detained and boats apprehended the killing of unarmed fishermen is unusual".
Sosa was killed and 30 others were allegedly kidnapped by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency Saturday off Jakhau coast in Gujarat. The fishermen were allegedly taken away in five boats, a member of the fishermen's boat association said Saturday.
Personnel of the Pakistani maritime agency opened fire on Indian fishing boat 'Dhanvantari' early Saturday morning when they were fishing in international waters.
