India summons US Deputy chief of mission over Meera Shankar issue

New Delhi: India has summoned the US deputy chief of mission Donald Lu over the pat down search of Indian diplomat Meera Shankar in Missisippi.

The Ministry of External Affairs has conveyed its strong concerns over the incident.

The summons come even after Hillary Clinton's assurance a couple of days ago that the US would look into the incident.

"We will be looking into it and trying to determine both what happened and what we could do to prevent such incidents in the future," Clinton told reporters at the State Department during a press briefing.

Sources have told NDTV that expressing it's concerns India had said that the Meera Shankar incident was unacceptable and contrary to the normal diplomatic practice which could effect the excellent India-US ties.

"Let me be frank, this is unacceptable to India. We are going to take it up with the government of US that such unpleasant incidents do not recur," External Affairs Minister S M Krishna had said in New Delhi after the incident was reported.

An Indian embassy spokesman had confirmed that the envoy was subjected to the pat down security check at the Jackson-Evers International Airport Saturday December 4 when Shankar came to board a flight to Washington after attending a function at the Mississippi State University.
