RS Pura, Jammu: India will give a "befitting reply" to the repeated ceasefire violations in Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistan, BJP president Amit Shah said on Monday.

"Home Minister Rajnath Singh has clearly said that if Pakistan resorts to firing, we will definitely give a befitting reply to them," Shah said.

Shah was addressing the a relief camp for border residents displaced by the ceasefire violations in RS Pura area of Jammu.

He said the BJP government will look in the issues faced by the people in border areas especially those displaced after the partition in 1947 and the 1965 and 1971 wars with Pakistan.

However, he said he cannot guarantee voting rights to those who took shelter here from the other side of the border.

"As far as voting rights are concerned, we cannot take a call on that. The Jammu and Kashmir state government has to take a call on that," Shah said.

Earlier in the day, there were political clashes at the camp between BJP and ruling National Conference workers.

BJP supporters allegedly threw out National Conference leader Taranjeet Singh from the camp, which has been set up at a school near the border with Pakistan.

Shah, who is considered to be the man behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi's successful poll campaign, has stated that the BJP aims to win at least 44 of the total 87 seats.

The BJP currently has 11 members in the legislative assembly.
