Indian climber Anurag Maloo, who went missing while descending Nepal's Mount Annapurna last week, has been found alive, but is in a critical condition. "He is found alive. He has been taken to the hospital in critical condition, but he is still alive," Sudhir, his brother said.
Anurag Maloo, 34, set out to climb Mount Annapurna last week; but fell down from an altitude of 6,000 metres while descending on April 17.
Mt Annapurna, standing at 8,091 metres above sea level, is the tenth-highest mountain in the world and is counted among the most difficult peaks to summit along with K2 and Nanga Parbat.
Rescuers found Anurag Maloo in a crevasse that he had fallen into as he was descending. A team of six Sherpa climbers led by Chhang Dawa conducted a ground search and found him in some 300m deep crevasse on Thursday morning, said Mingma Sherpa, Chairman at Seven Summit Treks.
“His health is very critical. Doctors are looking after him,” said Thaneswar Guragain, the general manager of Seven Summit Treks.
Mr Maloo is on a mission to climb all 14 peaks above 8,000 metres and the seven highest points in all seven continents to create awareness and drive action towards achieving the UN Global Goals. He has been awarded REX Karam- Veer Chakra and became the 2041 Antarctic Youth Ambassador from India.
Another Indian mountaineer, Baljeet Kaur, was yesterday rescued from Mount Annapurna. The 27-year-old climber had gone missing near camp IV on Mt Annapurna. She was rescued from a height of 7,363 metres and has suffered frostbite, officials said.
