Dubai:
A 35-year-old Indian national from Gujarat allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the bow of a boat in the UAE, where he was working for the last two years.
Kanti Beku Tandil, the captain of a fishing boat, hanged himself to death from the bow of his vessel on Sunday while the boat was harboured at the Mina wharf in Abu Dhabi, the Emirati capital.
The incident happened while hundreds of fishermen, working on similar boats docked in the area, left for their regular noon break, at around 2 pm, the Gulf News daily said in a report.
When they returned, they found Tandil hanging from the bow, with most of his body in water. Forensic investigations later confirmed the man had committed suicide, police said, but the reason is still unknown.
Tandil was 35-years of age and is survived by his wife and three children back home. Tandil's colleagues said that he had been working in the UAE for two years.
