Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have foiled an infiltration bid by terrorists in the Arnia sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The infiltration attempt took place along with a ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Rangers, along the International Border in the Pittal Border Out Post (BOP) area.
BSF personnel retaliated to the firing from the Pakistan side, during the foiled bid.
The incident comes on the back of a ceasefire violation by Pakistani forces near the Chinaz BOP in the Samba sector of the state on Monday.
The BSF and other security agencies had earlier picked up intercepts, which suggested that Pakistan-based terror groups would attempt to strike just before or during US President Barack Obama's visit to India for Republic Day.
Lieutenant General KH Singh, Commander of the Indian Army's 16 Corps, that is positioned along the India- Pakistan border in the Jammu region, had warned that at least 200 terrorists were waiting at various launch pads across the border to infiltrate into India.
Senior BSF officials told NDTV that the infiltration attempt appeared to have been backed by the Pakistan Rangers, who guard the other side of the International Border.
Security has been beefed up along the border ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, which will be attended in Delhi by Mr Obama. BSF has deployed an additional 1200 personnel in the region.
