Kuala Lumpur: An Indian man languishing in a Malaysian prison for over 36 months, though he was sentenced only for four months, now wants to end his life, a media report said Tuesday.
S Nallusamy was jailed for illegally entering the country. He was detained by the immigration department in 2007 for not having travel documents after entering Malaysia in 2002, the Tamil language daily Tamil Nesan said.
Nallusamy, 37, was so frustrated with his detention that he asked for poison from a social worker who visited him at the Lenggeng detention centre.
His plight came to light when social worker S Kamalanathan was contacted by the man's family in Trichy, India.
Kamalanathan said he was told by immigration officers that they had submitted documents to the Indian high commission to enable Nallusamy to be repatriated back to India after completing his sentence.
However, they had not received any reply, The Star said.
Malaysia says 30,000 Indian nationals overstayed and disappeared after they availed the visa on arrival facility as part of the country's tourism promotion effort.
