Islamabad: An Indian man was arrested in Islamabad after he was found not to have required travel documents, the Pakistani police have said. The man has been identified as Sheikh Nabi, a resident of Mumbai. The Indian High Commission is yet to be informed about the case, sources in the foreign ministry have said.
Mr Nabi was arrested from the F-8 area in the Pakistan capital, the Pakistan police said in a media release. He has been booked under the Foreigners Act, 1946. He has been remanded in judicial custody for a fortnight.
The arrest comes months after another Indian national, Kulbhushan Jadhav, was discovered to be in custody of Pakistani authorities.
Pakistan said he was arrested from the restive Balochistan province and he was sentenced to death by a military court earlier this year on allegations of spying. India has dismissed the Pakistani claims. Pakistan had not informed India about the death sentence, the Indian authorities said.
Last week, Mr Jadhav's death sentence was put on hold by the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Netherlands. Pakistan has been asked not to execute Mr Jadhav till the world court delivers its verdict.
